While in Stockholm we didn't rest. Each day we wouild board the T-Bana at Hagsätra station and take it to either Slussen or Gamla Stan station.
Our rental in Hagsätra, Stockholm, Sweden is:
Stockholm is well suited for walking and taking public transit. Several times a day we would walk to the market in Hagsätra, purchaing our groceries from the ICA Supermarket or the MatDax store. As I recall, the stores do not provide paper or plastic bags for your groceries, but expect customers to bring their own bag. We mostly ate at the rental home and just snacked on our trips through Stockholm city.
Here is Neva helping prepare sandwiches in our rental apartment.
And here are the kids in one of the local markets. We found it interesting that most Swedish stores had 1) a wall of candy, and 2) food in tubes (like fish, catsup, cheese, etc.).
Most of our day trips during our 5 day stay in Stockholm would be around Gamla Stan, the Old Town. I found this to be a beautiful city with amazing old architecture, palaces, cobbled hilly streets, and the view of the water and the archipelagos.
Here we are in Gamla Stan - Margaret/Peggy, Booi/Sheri, Michelle, Neva, Cora
Here we are in Slotten, just outside of Gamla Stan - Booi/Sheri, , CoraMargaret/Peggy, Neva
We spent most of a day exploring the Royal Palace (Kungliga slottet)
The Old Cathedral (Storkyrkan) is next to the Royal Palace (Kungliga slottet). The phone booth is just outside the church.
The Vasa museum (Vasamuseet) is awsome !! the museum displays the only almost fully intact 17th century ship that has ever been salvaged, the 64-gun warship Vasa that sank on her maiden voyage in 1628.
Stockholm is an archepeligo, so travel by boat is often necessary. We needed to take such a boat to visit the royal residence - Drottningholm Palace (Drottningholms slott)
There were lots of adventures. One evening Cora and Neva went shopping with their aunt Booi. Unfortunately, Cora did not buy the fire pajama pants.
One of the only meals we ate out was at this nice resteraunt just outside of Gamla Stan. Polpette located at Drottninggatan 6, 111 51 Stockholm, Sweden. Although this was a very nice restaurant, it was the only establishment in Sweden where we actually were expected to tip. Another GREAT thing about Sweden is that tipping is not expected.
